Before you start (5 minutes)
- Open windows and curtains in every room: dirt is easier to spot.
- Note left-behind items and damage, and photograph them before cleaning.
- Strip beds and collect towels and rubbish.
- List what is missing: supplies, bulbs, batteries.
Kitchen
- Empty and wipe the fridge; throw away what guests left.
- Clean hob, oven, microwave and extractor.
- Wash and put away dishes; check the number of place settings.
- Disinfect worktops, sink and handles.
- Restock: washing-up liquid, sponge, bin bags, salt, coffee or tea.
Bathroom and toilet
- Descale shower, taps and basin; clear hair from drains.
- Clean and disinfect the toilet (bowl, seat, brush) and floors.
- Put out clean towels, a bath mat and spare toilet roll.
- Check seals, mirrors and ventilation.
Bedrooms and living area
- Make the beds with clean linen; look for stains and wear.
- Dust and vacuum, including under beds and sofas.
- Check wardrobes, drawers and storage.
- Test remotes, batteries and Wi-Fi.
Final check
- Walk through for 5 minutes as a guest: smell, light, first impression at the door.
- Photograph every ready room: useful if a dispute arises.
- Check safety: smoke detector, extinguisher, clear exits.
- Lock up, return the key or key box, and mark the property as ready.
FAQ
How long should a turnover clean take?
It depends on size and number of beds: often 1 to 3 hours. Time two or three cleans to set a realistic allowance.
Do I need to disinfect everything?
Thorough cleaning is usually enough. Disinfect high-touch surfaces (handles, remotes, toilet) and follow the product’s instructions.
